Rose Bud Tote Bag CAL - Week 1

Rose Bud Tote Bag: Free Crochet Bag Pattern

Welcome to Week 1 of the Rose Bud Tote Bag Crochet A-Long for the Collective Crochet Together Facebook Group. This week you will be making the Bottom or Base of the bag & the 1st section of the Body. You will be using a mixture of simple & textured stitches, beginner friendly construction, & an easy crochet pattern you’ll use over and over again.

Inspiration for the Design:

The inspiration for this design was to create a bag that looked uniquely beautiful & only takes you 1-2 weeks to make. As you may or may not know, this is my 1st EVER bag design! I knew this bag had to represent me & the style that I bring to all of my designs just by looking at it. So of course that means finding a way to combine textured stitches in a fun new way.

The Yarn

For the Rose Bud Tote Bag I used left over yarn "I Love This Yarn" by Hobby Lobby in Rosey Cheeks.  I wanted a yarn that would work up  very quickly but still give you that light weight yet sturdy feeling. You can use any #4/Worsted Weight & even #5/Bulky Weight for the bottom if you decide.

Materials:

*#4 Weight / Worsted Weight Yarn

*Size I/5.50 mm hook

*Size K/6.50 mm hook

2-14.) Ch 1, sc in same ch & in each ch around, sl st to 1st st

Sizes:

Width – 13”

Skill level: Advanced Beginner/ Intermediate

Yarn Needed:

*Approximately 550 yards

Abbreviations:

Special Stitches:

*Puff stitch - * yo, insert hook in indicated stitch, yo, pull loop through stitch and make loop same height as previous sts in working row*- rep 3 more times, yo, pull through all but last loop, yo, pull through last 2 loops to close

  • You will be working the puff st around the double crochet stitch. See video below 👇👇

* For 1st row of Puff Stitches- Skip to 2:00 mins

*Half Double Crochet in 3rd loop – crochet in 3rd HIDDEN loop on the back side of the hdc from previous row.

Notes:

* I crochet very loose, so anyone that crochets on the tighter side I would highly recommend going up a hook size or 2.

*Pattern is worked from bottom up, all in 1 piece.

* Ch 1 does NOT count as 1st st

* If you see a specific portion of the pattern in ( ) parentheses, that means the pattern sequence is ALL in that same stitch.

* If you see a specific portion of the pattern in * *, that means the pattern sequence is to be repeated until specified to stop.

* If you see a number before a stitch, that means you make that many stitches in the same stitch.

* EXAMPLE: 3 dc = 3 dc sts in same st

*If you see a number after a stitch, that means you crochet in that many stitches.

*EXAMPLE: sc 5 = sc in next 5 sts
